Woman hid mother’s dead body in freezer to keep collecting disability benefits

A Sebastian woman is behind bars for keeping her mother’s dead body in a deep freezer in order to keep receiving her disability benefits.

A warrant was obtained July 7 for the arrest of Michele R. Hoskins, 64, for failing to report the death of Marie Hoskins, and tampering with evidence.

Officers found the 93-year-old inside a chest freezer after a welfare check back in April.

Officials also found a heavily soiled bed mattress concealed in thick brush and covered by cut palm tree branches in the backyard.

According to investigators, Marie died from natural causes. She was dead for approximately two weeks before being placed inside the chest freezer.

Michele Hoskins is currently being held at the Indian River County Jail with a $10,000 bond.
