The first official trailer for Regina King‘s directorial debut, One Night in Miami, has been released and it’s star-studded.
In the new promo, fans get their first look at the riveting film, which stars Eli Goree as Muhammad Ali, Leslie Odom Jr. as Sam Cooke, Kingsley Ben-Adir as Malcolm X, and Aldis Hodge as Jim Brown.
Based on the 2013 stage play by Olivier Award nominee Kemp Powers, the film is a fictional account of a real meeting that took place in 1964 between Ali — then known as Cassius Clay — and activist Malcolm X, singer Sam Cooke, and football star Jim Brown.
While crowds flooded the streets to celebrate Clay’s title as the World Heavyweight Boxing Champion, the boxer was unable to stay on the island due to the segregation laws of the time. Instead, Clay spent the night celebrating with his three friends at the Hampton House Motel, located in one of Miami’s historically black neighborhoods.
The film also stars Joaquina Kalukango, Nicolette Robinson, Beau Bridges, and Lance Reddick.
As previously reported, the movie had its premiere in Miami on December 25. It will be in select U.S. theaters January 8 and on Amazon Prime Video January 15.
