With just a month before its official release, Warner Bros. is giving viewers a closer look at the upcoming Fred Hampton biopic, Judas and the Black Messiah.

In the new trailer, Daniel Kaluuya, who plays Hampton, tells his followers that uniting against oppression is the best way for progress.

“Imagine what we can accomplish together. We can heal this whole city,” he says in the gritty visual.

Directed Shaka King and produced by Ryan Coogler, the film tells the story of Hampton, a respected civil rights activist and Black Panther leader, who was betrayed by FBI informant William O’Neal.

O’Neal, played by LaKeith Stanfield, was considered a close friend of Hampton’s and took his own life in 1990, with some speculating that he was haunted by his part in Hampton’s death. The film is told from O’Neal’s viewpoint.

Jesse Plemons, Dominique Fishback, Lil Rey Howery and Martin Sheen also star.

In addition to the new promo, Indie Wire reports that the feature is now in Oscar contention, with its world premiere to take place at Sundance on January 28.

Judas and the Black Messiah will be available in select theaters and streaming exclusively on HBO Max February 12.
