Colorado State University has updated its forecast for the 2020 Atlantic Hurricane Season and still calls for an above average season.

They are now calling for 20 named storms, which includes the 5 we’ve already seen, 9 hurricanes and 3 major hurricanes.

It’s important to remember not to get caught up in the numbers though. In 2010, we had 19 named storms and only 1 tropical storm impacted the US.

On the contrary in 1992 there were only 7 named storms, but Hurricane Andrew made landfall in South Florida. It only takes one, so remember to be prepared no matter what the season is predicted to be.

The tropics have been relatively quiet for the past few weeks.

Right now, an area of low pressure that is located over the south eastern United States will move offshore and has a 40 percent chance of development through the next 5 days.
