This Is Why Juneteenth Is Important For America!

On Juneteenth, we celebrate African American freedom, achievement and excellence. Celebrated each year on June 19, Juneteenth marks the day the news of freedom reached the last enslaved Black people in Galveston, Texas. It was then, two years and a half years after Lincoln delivered the Emancipation Proclamation speech, recited here by Dean of Students Jamele Adams, that it was first heard in Texas.
