Ghost may be dead, but Power will continue to live on in Ghost’s son, Tariq St. Patrick.
On Tuesday, Starz dropped the first official trailer for its new Power spinoff, Power Book II: Ghost. In the new promo — which features some of its star-studded cast including Mary J. Blige and Method Man — Tariq, played by Michael Rainey Jr., is seen following in his father’s footsteps of becoming a drug kingpin.
“I can’t fail,” Rainey Jr. says in the clip.
Originally scheduled to air during the summer but was delayed due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the series will now premiere on Sunday, September 6.
As previously reported, the Power spinoff will pick up where the original series left off. According to Power‘s creator/showrunner, Courtney A. Kemp, Power Book II: Ghost will “throw the fans right back into the action from the start, picking up with Tariq and Tasha 72 hours after the events of Power 615.”
“We are excited for the audience to meet a host of new characters, including powerful allies like Method Man’s Davis MacLean and potential foes like Mary J. Blige’s Monet Tejada,” Kemp adds in the statement. “Tariq navigates the criminal world and the academic world without ever taking his eyes off the prize: his mother’s freedom.”
Co-executive producer Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson also shares his excitement for the first of four planned Power spin-off. “We can’t wait for the fans to see what is in store for all of the characters they know and those they are about to meet,” he said. “I have told you before, Power never ends… we are just getting started.”
Power Book II: Ghost premieres September 6 at 9 p.m. ET on Starz, then moves to 8 p.m. ET starting September 13.
