In case you missed it, Brandy, the first Black Disney princess, made a “special announcement” on Instagram Tuesday regarding her new song, “Starting Now.”
“On May 21st, Walt Disney Records will release the new Disney Princess Anthem “Starting Now” sung by yours truly,” Brandy wrote in the caption. She said she had an “amazing time” working with fellow Grammy-winner and producer Oakestra recording “an original song that celebrates courage and kindness.”
“Thank you to all the songwriters and my Disney family for this magical moment,” Brandy concluded, with the hashtag #UltimatePrincessCelebration.
Brandy played the title role opposite Whitney Houston in the 1997 TV musical Rodgers & Hammerstein’s Cinderella.
According to Good Morning America, “Starting Now” will be featured in Disney Princess Remixed — An Ultimate Princess Celebration, a music special that’ll also feature other princesses, premiering this August on the Disney Channel and Disney+.
Disney’s Ultimate Princess Celebration is a global, year-long event aimed at highlighting the impact of Disney princesses and the courage and kindness they inspire in fans all around the world. It will include special events, experiences, unique products and performances.
