Serena Williams was hoping to secure her 24th Grand Slam title–a record set by Margaret Court in the 1970s. Williams, 37, however had losses in two sets (6-2, 6-2) and fell to 27-year-old Simona Halep. The tennis match was Williams’ third Grand Slam loss in a row. The last time Williams won a Grand Slam title was in 2017 at the Australian Open. She has struggled to get the 24th Grand Slam title since the birth of her daughter, Olympia, in 2017.
Halep moved with speed, for the most part, controlling the court during the match.
After the match Williams said, “When a player plays like that, you just have to take your hat off.” Williams also said, “I’ve just got to keep fighting, keep trying.”
