Rapper Saweetie doted over her boyfriend Quavo during Facebook Dating’s Black Is Love panel discussion Thursday with Angela Yee, LGBTQIA+ activist and personality Ts Madison, OWN’s Black Love co-creator Codie Elaine Oliver, and matchmaker Devyn Simone.
Saweetie describes herself as a “private person,” which is why she shares fun, loving moments of the couple on Instagram.
“Because we’re human beings at the end of the day. I do see the comments…the tabloids…and this and that. For the most part, its not because I wanna hide it,” she explains. “I wanna protect it. So I might show a little bit but not everything.”
The “Icy Girl” said being in the same industry as her Migos bae has helped their relationship, personally and professionally.
“It does really help, talking to somebody who is doing what you’re doing because lifetimes ago I’ve dated other people and when they don’t understand the hustle and that brings conflict because they’re not necessarily as supportive,” she said.
Along with Quavo’s support, Saweetie said she’s also learning to embrace his “loving” ways.
“I think opposites do attract, he’s such a affectionate person and I’m not, but it’s because of my upbringing. I’m so excited to watch that series Black Love because I would love to see a healthy way of how to love. So definitely opposites do attract. He’s a loving man and he’s taught me how to love.”
The couple has grown closer during the pandemic, during which Saweetie says she also learned to cook Quavo’s favorite dish. “[It’s] steak, pasta, and broccoli with [lots of] cheese,” Saweetie reveals, “because he doesn’t like vegetables.”
