African Americans did not have a good night at the 95th annual Academy awards as Angela Bassett and
Brian Tyree Henry both lost in the categories they were nominated in.
(Bassett lost in the supporting actress category and Henry lost in the supporting actor category)
However, the highlight of the evening was Ruth Carter, who made history by becoming the first-ever
African American woman to win two Academy Awards.
Carter was the first black woman to win the award for best costume design in 2019 for the movie Black Panther and won the award again for best costume design for Wakanda Forever.
