Naturi Naughton has a lot of things to be “excited” about ahead of the season premiere of her Power spinoff, Power Book 2: Ghost.
The actress and former 3LW member tells ABC Audio that the upcoming season will not only show a different side of her character, Tasha St. Patrick, but also give her the opportunity to work with one of her favorite artists.
“I’m excited because I get to work with Method Man quite a bit as Davis Maclean,” she says. “And he’s amazing.”
On the series, Method plays Davis, Tasha’s criminal justice attorney. Naughton says having that close connection on set with the Grammy-Award winner gave her the rare opportunity for an unexpected collaboration.
“And we actually are doing a song together,” she reveals. “And I’m working on Naturi music, separate of the show, obviously. It’s not connected to the character, but as many people know, I come from a music background. So I’m so excited for my own personal music.”
Although Naughton is keeping mum on the new track and when it will be released, the singer says her song “with Meth is gonna be dope.”
While fans can expect some new music from the Naughton, they unfortunately won’t get any from her character Tasha, who previously showed her musical side on past seasons of Power.
“I don’t think you’re gonna see Tasha singing this season,” Naughton says.
“It’s kind of like, a lot going on where she ain’t got time to be humming no melodies,” she laughs. “She’s, like, trying to get out from behind bars.”
Power Book 2: Ghost, also starring Michael Rainey Jr. and Mary J. Blige, premieres Sunday, September 6 at 9 p.m. ET on Starz.
