New York City Will Cut $1 Billion From NYPD Budget Mayor Bill de Blasio and the New York City Council have reached a deal to cut $1 billion from the NYPD’s annual budget. The deal, approved by the Council on Wednesday, will shift the money to education and social services starting in 2021. Many protesters, including NYC Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, say the cuts don’t go far enough.  City Council speaker Corey Johnson called it “a starting point, not an ending point”.
