Claws actress Niecy Nash is enjoying married life with wife Jessica Betts, and while life has certainly hit a new high for her, she does wish the world treated her wedding as a celebration of love and not as a coming out story.
Speaking with People, the 50-year-old actress says her marriage had “absolutely nothing to do with gender and it has everything to do with [Jessica’s] soul.” She added, “She is the most beautiful soul I have ever met in my life.”
Moreover, she doesn’t view her nuptials as her coming out announcement, “but rather a going into myself and being honest about who I love,” she said.
Nash shocked fans late last month by announcing her surprise wedding to the musician, but she says the world is focusing on the wrong thing and should be celebrating that she found true love.
“I was not suppressing my sexuality my whole life,” attested Nash. “I love who I love.”
“I’ve done everything I wanted to do on my own terms and my own way. So my choice now in a partner has nothing to do with who I’ve always been,” clarified the Reno 911 star. “It’s a matter of who I am in this moment.”
“I’m not limiting myself on what that love is supposed to look like,” the Emmy Award nominee expressed.
As for Betts, whom she met in 2015, the actress reveals, “I loved her before I was in love with her because she is such a special human being.”
But, they soon began seeing themselves in a different light, with Nash concluding, “you should always hold space for magic because it can happen at any time.”
Nash was previously married to Don Nash from 1994 to 2007, and then to Jay Tucker in 2011 to 2019.
