The Florida Department of Economic Opportunity is warning the public about a new scam surfacing on the web.
An email that at first glance looks to be from the Florida DEO is targeting folks that receive unemployment benefits as they struggle during these hard times.
The email has an official logo and reads like an update from the DEO saying “You have been approved for the new pandemic stimulus benefit of 12,600 dollars.”
The email claims the money is coming from the “CORONA VIRUS AID” or the CARES Act and it asks people to click on a link to verify their information and claim their benefits.
But officials are putting an alert out to warn Floridians that this is a scam and that all of the information listed on this email is False.
Florida Attorney General Ashley moody urging the public to be vigilant as new cases of fraud are expected to pop up as the Covid-19 vaccine rolls out and this new wave of stimulus checks makes its way into Americans’ wallets.
