To close out January, here’s a roundup of hot new music to take into February.
Meek Mill teamed up with bachata singer Leslie Grace and super-producer Boi-1da to remix the classic dance single, “Conga.” The remix puts a twist on the 1985 single by Miami Sound Machine, fronted by Gloria Estefan, as part of a new campaign by Barcardi rum liquor.
The remix also came with vibrant music video that finds Leslie busting out her beautiful vocals and dance moves, while Meek keeps it cool rapping about his luxurious lifestyle.
“Flow so cold, need a mask on / Brand new Patek, got the brand new baguettes / I’m surprised they ain’t panicking yet / Hundred K flight just to land on the jet / We flew out just to ran through the check,” raps Meek.
Up next is Meek’s “Pain Away” partner Lil Durk, who’s featured on the debut album of Atlanta rapper and Interscope signee Neechie. Durk hopped on the track “Like a Dream,” from Neechie’s Shady Baby debut, which was executive-produced by YSL signee Gunna.
Gunna also joined Neechie on the track “Stackin,” where he lets the world know, “Me and Young Nechie is back in it / Straight off the beat, Gunna rappin’ it.”
Buzzing U.K. rapper Fredo drops a strong, 11-track effort for his debut album, Money Can’t Buy Happiness, featuring special appearances from major artists such as Summer Walker and the late Pop Smoke. Walker lent her R&B vocals to Fredo’s “Ready,” which samples The Fugees’ 1996 classic, “Ready or Not.”
And lastly, Dallas rappers Yella Beezy and Erica Banks linked for a Texas collaboration with their song, “Star.” The uptempo track samples E.U.‘s dance single, “Da Butt,” which was also featured on the soundtrack to Spike Lee‘s classic movie, School Daze.
