Today the nominees for the 2023 class of the Rock and Roll Hall Of Fame were announced.

The names included people like Cyndi Lauper, Sheryl Crow, and George Michael.

While it seems like those three names are “shoe-ins” to be inducted let’s focus on the hip-hop nominees.

A Tribe Called Quest

In my opinion, outside of Outkast, A Tribe Called Quest is the best hip-hop group of all time.

According to the Rock and Rock Hall Of Fame’s websiteA Tribe Called Quest is called “The most artistic, eclectic and perceptive rap group of the 1990s” that “forever shifted the hip hop landscape and expanded the possibilities of the genre”.

The cool thing about Tribe is they injected jazz and rock into their music and that attracted me to them at a young age.

Here’s my favorite Tribe Called Quest song of all time!

Missy “Misdemeanor” Elliot

I always looked at Missy as a trendy hip-pop artist.

A trendsetter in the world of fashion and creative video that showed how creative hip hop could get.

For example, check out her Supa Dupa Fly Video:

She’s been behind some of the most influential artists of the culture including Aaliyah, Ciara, Ginuwine, SWV, and others.

The Rock and Roll Hall Of Fame website describes Missy as “an in-demand songwriter and producer and founded her own record label, all before breaking out as a Platinum-selling solo star. Elliott forged new paths for women in the music industry and society at large through her behind-the-scenes mastery and unapologetic ownership of her body, her sexual desires, and her Blackness in her music”

Good Luck to all the nominees!
