Melania Trump Slams Democrats for ‘Wasting Tax Dollars on Sham Impeachment’

First lady Melania Trump made her first solo appearance of the fall campaign with a stop in southern Pennsylvania, where she blasted Joe Biden’s “socialist agenda,” and accused Democrats of “wasting taxpayers’ dollars on a sham impeachment.” Polls show President Donald Trump’s Democratic opponent with a single digit lead in the Keystone State, and the president and first lady campaigned separately Tuesday. Trump traveled to Michigan, while the first lady spoke in Atglen, a small community east of Lancaster, Pa. The first lady spoke just weeks after testing positive for the coronavirus along with the president and their son, Barron. She said she experienced the effects of COVID-19, not just as a patient, “but as a worried mother and wife.” She also offered her thoughts and prayers to Americans whose lives have been impacted by the virus. She then laced into Biden and the Democrats over the president’s impeachment. “This sham was led by opposition and their display of hatred is on display to this day,” she said. “Children watching and learning about politics in our country deserve a better display of political responsibility.” She also defended her husband over his response to the pandemic. “The American people can look at Joe’s Biden’s 36 years in Congress and eight years in the vice presidency and determine whether they think he will finally be able to get something done for the American people.” And she drew a laugh when she mentioned the president’s Twitter habit. “For the first time in history, the citizens of this country get to hear directly and instantly from their president every single day through social media,” she said. “I do not always agree what the way he says things. But it is important to him that he speaks directly to the people he serves.”
