Meagan Good took her first step behind the camera with her latest project If Not Now, When?

In the film, which she co-directed with Tamara Bass, Good plays Tyra, a mother who is confronted by her close gal pals about her substance abuse. Good tells ABC Audio that when she first decided to make the film, she had no idea that she would also be starring in it.

“I came into it really kind of focusing my energy on wanting to direct once I decided that that’s what I was going to do,” she says. “And Tyra, the character… was excit[ing]… because she’s complex and something I’ve never played before.”

Although Good admits directing and acting in the same project wasn’t an easy feat, the Think Like A Man star says she made sure it was manageable. 

“I was like, well, ‘She has the least amount of scenes. Don’t have to go through hair and makeup because she’s in rehab the whole time,'” Good explains. “So I can really focus on being behind the camera.”

Thankfully, Good also had her co-director and co-star Bass by her side, who helped her to juggle a multitude of responsibilities.

“It was one of those things where when Tam and I were on the camera at the same time, it was literally like, we’re setting up the shot, we’re looking at everything. Then we go in, we act, we do it, and we come back,” Good says, before adding that after “adjustments” were made, they did it all over again.

“It was definitely a challenge, but a really, really fun one,” she continues. “And something I really, really love doing and I can’t wait to do more of.”
