Lorraine Toussaint is hoping to kick some major butt in her new CBS action-drama The Equalizer.
In the series, which follows Queen Latifah as Robyn McCall — a divorced single mother who moonlights as a vigilante for justice — Toussaint plays Aunt Vy, Robyn’s confidant and wise aunt. Toussaint tells ABC Audio that although she hasn’t officially been asked to get her hands dirty, she’d be more than happy to do it.
“Point of No Return, Into the Badlands, you know, Orange [Is the New Black]. I’ve got the on screen history of kicking [butt],” she laughs. “In real life I’m a wimp, but on screen — absolutely.”
“I mean, I’ve already pitched that idea to the writers and the creators that we need a True Lies version of this at some point where those chickens come home to roost,” she continues. “And Aunt Vy is standing at the door with a serious shotgun that she knows how to use — Surprise!”
Considering action-packed dramas have a way of evolving during the season, there’s still plenty of time for Toussaint to flex her special skills on the show. Thankfully, there’s no harm in thinking ahead.
“I sure hope so, because the way the series is unfolding and the villains that she’s encountering, they’re going to want to know where she lives,” Toussaint explains. “And so we’ll see how that plays itself out. I’m looking forward to it.”
The Equalizer, also starring Chris Noth, premieres Sunday, February 7 immediately following Super Bowl LV on CBS.
