Chicago MC Lil Durk honors those closet to him and pays tribute to late rapper King Von on his sobering new single, “Backdoor.”
The song is accompanied with a visual that finds Durk wearing Von’s O’Block chain in remembrance of the fellow Chicagoian, who was signed to Durk’s Only The Family record label. The 26-year-old was shot and killed in Atlanta on November 6th, a week after releasing his debut album, Welcome to O’Block.
“You weren’t on that block when [stuff] was goin’ on / I wasn’t worryin’ ’bout the other side when that [stuff] was goin’ on / And we don’t hang with different [guys], don’t ask us what we on,” raps Durk.
After Von’s death, Lil Durk took a brief break from social media, but has since returned with the hashtag, #Doit4Von.
“Backdoor” follows Durk’s hometown anthem “The Voice,” as well as guest appearances on Megan Thee Stallion’s debut album, Good News, Meek Mill‘s “Pain Away,” and Drake‘s Grammy-nominated latest hit, “Laugh Now, Cry Later.”
Durk recently celebrated the success of his RIAA certified Gold album, Just Cause Y’all Waited 2, which peaked at #2 on the all-genre Billboard 200 albums chart.
