On the new series BET Presents The Encore, former 3LW singer Kiely Williams works with eight other artists and girl-group members from the 1990s and 2000s to form the ultimate R&B supergroup.

Williams says she has no clue why there was pushback on last week’s episode about her interest in being the group’s creative director.

“I don’t know,” she tells ABC Audio while laughing. “I’ll be honest with you. I don’t know. I have no idea.”

Williams believes it was due to the age difference between some of the ladies on the show, including Pamela Long from Total and twins Fallon and Felisha of Cherish, compared to the artists she’s previously worked with.

“Most artists that I work with have been significantly younger than me, like 10 years. So there’s the gap there,” she explains. “I think it was just very strange being peers…with some of these women. Obviously, not Pamela; that’s my goddess. I look up to her. I grew up with her. But like for Fallon and Felisha, for like Aubrey [O’Day of Danity Kane], for like some of the woman who were about the same age.”

Despite how defensive some ladies seemed, Williams believes whatever happens is part of the show’s process, which includes creating new music, learning choreography, and recording an album in 30 days — all while living under the same roof.   

“It’s just growing pains, you know, and I think that we as a house grew into each other, and I think it ended up exactly the way it should have,” she adds.
