Rapper Kevin Gates is looking to land a hit record with multi Grammy-winning pop star Bruno Mars — especially since the two have similar curly hair afros.
Late Tuesday evening, Gates shared a shirtless 45-min video of himself rocking his curly ‘fro while rapping along to classics such as “Shoulda,” “Kung Fu,” and “Try Yea,” from his 2018 mixtape, Luca Brasi 3.
“Dis me,” he captioned on Instagram.
About 12 minutes in, the New Orleans rapper steps outside of his home to the back yard, where he asks his wife, Dreka, and their two children what they want to do for the evening.
“Bae, I’m thinking about wearing my hair out tonight,” said Gates, before his daughter, Islah, responds, “Daddy looks like Bruno.”
“Who, Bruno Mars? Oh, I need to do a song with Bruno,” Gates replied before singing one of Bruno’s Grammy-winning hit songs, “That’s What I Like.”
Earlier in the video, Gates vowed he would never cut his hair again in honor his friend and late rapper Yung Mazi, who was shot and killed in 2017.
“Hey Mazi, I love you for life. I honor you. I’ll never cut my hair again,” he said.
Gates continued reflecting on his life growing up in the 9th Ward District in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, as well as his family and the love of his life.
“I want thank my beautiful mama for giving me life because this a beautiful life to live,” he said before playing “Find You Again,” which he dedicated to Dreka.
