Kanye West‘s music isn’t the only thing he’ managed to spin into gold. A pair of the rapper’s shoes he wore during his 2008 Grammy performance recently sold at auction for a record $1.8 million, according to TMZ.
That price tag for West’s prototype Nike Air Yeezy 1, which he wore during his performance of “Hey Mama” and “Stronger,” shattered the previous record of $615,000 for the 1985 Nike Air Jordans worn by Michael Jordan when he broke a backboard during a preseason game in Italy.
Sotheby’s says the buyer is RARES, a sneaker investment marketplace, who dropped the nearly $2 million for the Yeezys that feature the classic Nike Swoosh, plus a Yeezy forefoot strap and a bright pink “Y” medallion lace lock.
