A film starring Joey Bada$$ has scored an Oscar nomination.

The 28-minute film, Two Distant Strangers, was executive-produced by Sean “Diddy” Combs.  Inspired by last summer’s protests in the wake of police violence against the Black community, it’s now been nominated for Best Live Action Short Film.

In the movie, Joey plays Carter Jones, a young man who is forced to re-live the deadly day “where he is shot, time after time, by a white cop, no matter what he does.”

On Tuesday, Joey took to Instagram to celebrate the nomination, after taking a slight pause from working on the follow up to 2017’s All-Amerikkkan Bada$$.

“Took a break from recording my album last September to star in this incredible film idea written by Travon [Free.] From the moment I read the script I was in. I knew this project was something that aligned with that I felt I needed to say/show to the world,” Joey wrote in the caption. 

“Six months later here we are, Oscar-nominated,” he continued. “Grammys are cool or whatever [just kidding]. But nah for real I’m so grateful to be apart of this project and I want to send a big shout out to everyone involved.”

“Imma be a [freakin] EGOT,” he continued on Twitter, referring to the term for those who’ve won an Emmy, Grammy, Oscar and Tony Award.

Sharing the same sentiments, Diddy posted a Instagram video of himself and Joey poolside, toasting to their Oscar-nominated film with wine. Diddy said he was “proud” to have worked on the film, which was also backed by Van Lathan and Jessie Williams. 

“Us coming together for this project is so powerful. Can’t wait for the world to see it!” Diddy concluded.
