Issa Rae's breakout HBO series Insecure is set to take an extended break.
In interview with Vulture, HBO programming president Casey Bloys said Insecure's fourth season won't be back until 2020. Turns out Issa's a little too busy for HBO right now.
"Well, Issa became a big movie star!" Bloys told Vulture. "We're not the first place to deal with this, but when you're in business with very creative and talented people, there are a lot more opportunities for people to do things. Issa, I think, partly wanted a break to come back fresh."
Issa likely needs that break, considering how many projects she has lined up this year. This includes her new comedy Little, in which she stars alongside Regina Hall and Marsai Martin, and two back-to-back films: the romantic drama The Photograph and the comedy The Lovebirds.
However, according to Boyd, the network doesn't plan to put the popular series on the back burner. Boyd says when Insecure return, it will be just as strong and awards-worthy.
“It wasn’t exactly random that we ended up [scheduling the show] in the spring, right before Emmys,” Bloys promised, “so that the show should get the Emmy love that it has deserved.”
