Robin Thede and the cast of the wildly popular sketch comedy series, A Black Lady Sketch Show, apparently didn’t let the pandemic slow them down.
In a teaser shared by Thede, the creator and star revealed her HBO series will return next month with brand new episodes.
“See.. see… Season 2 of @ablackladysketchshow is coming April 23 to @hbo and streaming on @hbomax!,” she wrote alongside the promo. “On TWO platforms, tuh! I cannot WAIT for you all to see what we have in store.”
According to HBO, the new season will have only have six episodes, but an impressive lineup that includes returning cast members Ashley Nicole Black and Gabrielle Dennis, who will be joined by featured players Laci Mosley and Skye Townsend.
Missing from that list is Black Lady Sketch Show alum Quinta Burnson, who tweeted that she will still be watching “although [she’s] not in this season due to scheduling conflicts (the whole covid thing).”
Other guest stars expected to appear include executive producer Issa Rae, Gabrielle Union, Jesse Williams, Miguel, Skai Jackson, Laz Alonso, Ryan Michelle Bathé, Omarion, Kim Wayans, Ayesha Curry, Lance Gross, Wunmi Mosaku and more.
While the full list of talent has not been disclosed, Thede told ABC Audio back in September 2019 that she had a long list of Black women that she wanted to guest star on her series — including Halle Berry and Michelle Obama. However, there was one mega-star she was hesitant to ask: Beyoncé.
“We did not ask Beyoncé, because we wanted to make sure that we got one season done and that she could see it,” she said.
Now with season two just around the corner, hopefully we’ll get a surprise appearance from Bey.
A Black Lady Sketch Show returns April 23 at 11 p.m. ET.
