Two-time Grammy-winner Lecrae is on The Road to Restoration.
The hip hop artist shared behind-the-scenes clips of the making of his new studio album, Restoration. In the YouTube videos, he revealed his battle with clinical depression, anxiety, and unresolved issues from his childhood, crediting his wife, Darragh, for reminding him “what his priorities are.”
“I used to be a creative who was taking time for the family, but now I’m a family man who’s fighting to be creative,” the father of three said in one of the videos.
Lecrae also talked about being embraced by his father-in-law, though his biological father wasn’t in his life.
Other scenes show the artist discussing song topics with his team and making the video for “California Dreaming,” which was filmed in San Diego last year, where he also met his biological father for the first time.
Of the album, Lecrae revealed PLUSS — the producer of his hit record “Blessings“– came through and blessed him with “some new music…some great music.”
“I want to see healing and health, and I feel like this album is a safe place,” he continued. “That’s what I want it to be. Not just like an album but a safe space a therapeutic place for people to say I can breathe.”
Restoration arrives this Friday, August 21.
