HCA Hospital Group data breach may affect area patients

HCA Healthcare, a hospital group with several locations in the area, confirmed in a press release on Monday that hackers stole reams of patient data and are threatening to sell it on the dark web unless the company pays a ransom.

According to the statement, the personal data of as many as 11 million patients may have been compromised. The data includes dates of birth, email addresses, phone numbers, gender and appointment information.

HCA has notified law enforcement and says it will be in contact with patients who may have been affected by the breach.

HCA Healthcare owns several hospitals in the viewing area, all of which may be involved in the data breach, including HCA Florida JFK Hospital, HCA Florida St. Lucie Hospital and HCA Florida Lawnwood Hospital.
