Former Tallahassee Mayor Reportedly Busted with Meth

  • Andrew Gillum, the former mayor of Tallahassee and recent candidate for the Florida governor’s office, was involved in a “crystal meth incident” early Friday in a Miami Beach hotel, according to police.
  • Officers and EMTs, who were responding to a drug overdose, found Gillum in a room with two other men at about 1 a.m., a Miami Beach Police Department report indicates. Gillum was vomiting when crews arrived, per the report. “Mr. Gillum was unable to communicate with officers due to his inebriated state,” the report reads. Although the report indicates arrests were made, spokesman Ernesto Rodriguez says the incident is “not being investigated as a criminal matter.”
  • Gillum has since issued an explanation for the episode, writing, “I was in Miami last night for a wedding celebration when first responders were called to assist one of my friends. While I had too much to drink, I want to be clear that I have never used methamphetamines. I apologize to the people of Florida for the distraction this has caused our movement.”
  • Do you think Gillum is going to lose his gig as a CNN political commentator? Why wouldn’t this case be investigated as a criminal matter?
