Scott Israel, the former Broward County sheriff who is running to get his old job back, is in the hospital with COVID-19!

Israel said in a statement from his campaign that he began experiencing symptoms over the past several days. Family members urged him to take another COVID-19 test which came back positive. Israel said he followed all the precautions, wore a mask in public, practiced social distancing and washed his hands frequently.

“My outlook is positive, my faith is strong, and I rest in the strong support of loving family, friends and colleagues,” wrote Israel in a statement.

Israel is running against Sheriff Gregory Tony, the man picked by Gov. Ron DeSantis to replace him due to his handling of the mass shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland on Valentine’s Day in 2018.
