Upcoming performances offer opportunities for public to see local talent in action

(WEST PALM BEACH) Wrapping up its 30th Anniversary season, the Kravis Center for the Performing Arts is shining a spotlight on its education programs — offering the public two springtime opportunities to see performances by talented local youth. On Friday, May 5 in Dreyfoos Hall, the curtain will rise at 7 p.m. for the 2023 Spotlight on Young Musicians concert. On Sunday, June 4, the Kravis Center will celebrate high school musical theater excellence with the Dream Awards at 7 p.m.

“These programs are just two examples of how our education department seeks to fulfill its purpose,” said Tracy C. Butler, Director of Education at the Kravis Center for the Performing Arts. “Part of our responsibility is to help students ignite their creativity, enabling them to explore the performing arts, become better audience members and create art themselves.”

In partnership with the Youth Orchestra of Palm Beach County, the School District of Palm Beach County and the Palm Beach County Music Teachers Association, Spotlight on Young Musicians has been an annual mainstay at the Kravis Center since 1992. Since that time nearly 40,000 students have performed in Dreyfoos Hall. The eagerly anticipated annual event not only showcases emerging talent but also promotes the excellent music programs within area schools. Tickets for the May 5 performance are available for $10 in advance and $12 at the door.

Sponsored by Ricki Gail Conway and The Doris & Stanley Tananbaum Foundation, the Kravis Center Dream Awards recognize outstanding student achievement in musical theater productions with a showcase in Dreyfoos Hall. The Dream Awards Outstanding Lead Actor and Outstanding Lead Actress represent Palm Beach County as Jimmy Awards® nominees at the National High School Musical Theatre Awards™ in New York City. Schools must choose from an approved list of productions in order to be considered. Tickets for the June 4 performance range from $15 to $25.
