South Florida Sundays With Bishop Thomas Masters

Overweight and obesity are complex health issues that can have profound negative impacts on an individual and
community’s health outcome if left untreated. The overall increase in obesity among the nation and state is greatly influenced by a person’s community and their ability to make healthy choices. Per the CDC, children and adults who are obese are at an increased risk of several serious health conditions including heart
disease, type 2 diabetes, and cancer. The percentage of adults who are obese in Palm Beach County and Florida has been increasing since 2007. In 2016, close to 21.0% of adults in Palm Beach County were obese compared to 27.4% statewide. Thomas Masters talks to Maya Underwood who studied medicine, and now works as a medical teacher that teaches her students to become personal trainers to promote health and wellness in the community after she noticed the city was lacking in promoting health.
