Britney Spears will have to wait until August make her case against her conservatorship.  Due to COVID-19, a judge has ruled to extend it until the end of the summer.

Entertainment Tonight reports that judge Brenda Penny ruled that Jodi Pais Montgomery will remain the conservator of the “Toxic” singer until August 22.

The reason why Judge Penny pushed the date back is due to the COVID-19 pandemic closing down courthouses.  However, the family is reportedly anxious due to the recent admission from Britney that she accidentally burned down her gym.

Last September, her father, Jamie Spears, was removed by a judge as his daughter’s conservator after requesting to step down amid his health battles.  He hand-picked Montgomery to take over for him until he’s healthy enough to resume his role.

Montgomery currently has the power to limit or restrict Britney’s visitors, retain caretakers and security, prosecute restraining orders, and have full access to Britney’s medical and psychiatric records.

Following her public mental breakdown, Spears was placed under a conservatorship in 2008, with a judge ruling that her father Jaime would act as her permanent conservator and co-conservator of her estate.

Fans have been steadily petitioning for Britney to be freed from her conservatorship, with the hashtag #FreeBritney regularly trending on Twitter.
