Dave Chappelle’s stand-up comedy special, “Sticks and Stones,” premiered on Netflix last week and immediately faced criticism. Chappelle’s jokes target the men who accused Michael Jackson of sexual abuse and the LGBTQ community.  In 2016, Netflix paid Chappelle $60 million for five stand-up specials. Viewers however, seemed to enjoy the special as it received a 99% audience score on Rotten Tomatoes.

If the critics alone have a choice, Chappelle and Netflix may have reason for concern. Even if Netflix and Chappelle parted ways, the comedian could take the $60 million and go to another streaming service. So far, Chappelle hasn’t responded regarding the backlash and Netflix has not yet commented.
