Missy Elliott becomes first female rapper nominated Songwriters Hall of Fame

  • Missy Elliott is making history as the first female rapper to be inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame. Missy’s career has spanned almost 30 years and besides her award-winning performances of her songs, she’s also written for artists like Beyonce, Aaliyah, Monica, Lil Kim, Janet Jackson, and Mary J. Blige.
  • Missy took to her Twitter page to acknowledge the honor tweeting, “I am Humbly Grateful to be nominated with so many other AMAZING writers.”
  • Missy is the third rapper to receive the award, JAY-Z was the first in 2017, followed by Jermaine Dupri in 2019. Missy will be honored along with Mariah Carey at a ceremony on June 13, 2019, in New York.
