The Food and Drug Administration has issued a warning against cooking chicken with NyQuil after a social media challenge went viral, encouraging young viewers to try it.

“One social media trend relying on peer pressure is online video clips of people misusing nonprescription medications and encouraging viewers to do so too,” the FDA wrote. “These video challenges, which often target youths, can harm people — and even cause death.”

The trend is challenging people to cook chicken in NyQuil or other various over-the-counter cough and cold medications. Boiling certain medications can be harmful to breathe, let alone eat, the agency warned. Next time you are looking for something to spice up the recipe with, check the seasoning cabinet and not the medicine cabinet.
