In an exclusive interview for ELLE’s September 2020 issue, Cardi B and presumptive Democratic presidential nominee Joe Biden link up to discuss plans for free education, the fight for racial justice and other relevant topics. But Cardi has one big request.
“Let me keep it a buck, I just want Trump out,” Cardi shared. “His mouth gets us in trouble so much. I don’t want to be lied to — we’re dealing with a pandemic right now, and I just want answers. I want to know when this will be over.”
Cardi said she wants a president who will tell “the hard-core truth,” as well as offer free healthcare and free college.
Biden responded, “There’s no reason why we can’t have all of that,” adding, “The American public has had the blinders taken off.”
Cardi mentioned ongoing protests against racial injustice, telling Biden that Black people simply want “justice…to feel like Americans.”
“We are just asking for equality. We are asking for fairness, and we are asking for justice,” she explained. “That is all. I feel like everything people are asking for is getting interpreted in a very different way.”
Biden continued sharing his hope for younger generations to drive change by voting, as Trump “continues to divide [our communities]. He appeals to their prejudice. He spews hate. We’ve gotta stop it.”
If he becomes president, Biden said he plans to offer “free education” to anyone with a family making less than $125,000 and free community college for all.
In music news, Cardi B and Megan Thee Stallion‘s raunchy “WAP” collaboration topped Billboard’s Hot 100 singles chart.
