After a 16-month investigation, deputies with the Broward Sheriff’s Office arrested one of their own on grand theft and official misconduct charges.
Investigators with the BSO”s Public Corruption Unit said Det. Luis Silberberg falsified overtime forms seven times, lied more than 50 times about working a full shift when records showed he didn’t, thus defrauding the sheriff’s office out of more than $15,000.
Silberberg, according to the BSO, claimed he worked a regular shift and an overtime shift on the same day when he only worked the overtime shift.
The investigation also showed Silberberg said he worked a full day, but records showed he either didn’t leave his house or worked part of his shift before going back home.
Silberberg has been suspended without pay. He had been suspended with pay since February until Thursday’s arrest.
Initially hired in 2006, he worked as a detective in the robbery unit.
