Beyoncé and Rihanna among stars calling for stay of execution for death row inmate


IStock/fhogueBeyoncé, Rihanna, Meek Mill, LL Cool J and Kim Kardashian are among the stars demanding a stay of execution for death row inmate Rodney Reed.

Queen Bey added her name to the petition on Friday. She posted a message to Texas Governor Greg Abbott on her website, which reads, “Please take a hard look at the substantial evidence in the Rodney Reed case that points to his innocence. Be honest, Be fair. Give him back his life." Beyoncé also included a link for her fans to sign the petition.

A petition at has been signed by over two million people.

Rihanna tweeted, “One Click!!! SIGN this petition if you don’t believe the Government should kill an innocent man!!!"

Reed, 51, was convicted in 1998 for the rape and murder of 19-year-old Stacey Stites. He was been in prison for more than 21 years and is scheduled to be executed on November 20.

Stites was beaten, raped and strangled in Bastrop, Texas on the night of April 22, 1996.

Reed’s defense team says that some experts for the prosecution have recanted their testimony, and claims to have new evidence that will prove Reed's innocence, according to People.
