Variety reports the new scripted comedy, Ms. Pat, has been moved from Hulu to BET Plus.
The series is based on stand-up comedian Patricia “Ms. Pat” Williams and her memoir, Rabbit: The Autobiography of Ms. Pat.
Williams will play a fictionalized character of herself: a former convicted felon-turned-suburban mom who hustles and bustles to make it on the streets of Atlanta.
Former Basketball Wives star Tami Roman also stars in the series as Williams’ sister, alongside actorsJ. Bernard Calloway, Theodore Barnes, Briyanna Guadalupe and Vince Swann.
BET Plus has given the series a 10-episodes order, under award-winning executive producers Brian Grazer, Lee Daniels and playwright Jordan Cooper.
“This is the type of show I wish I had growing up – raw, funny, and honest,” said Daniels. “Ms. Pat and Jordan Cooper are magic together. We are thrilled that Lee Daniels Entertainment, a division of Disney, and BET are working together for the first time. Historic!”
Williams was named one of Variety’s 10 Comics to Watch in 2019. She also made appearances in a number of shows, including NBC’s Last Comic Standing, Comedy Central’s This Is Not Happening, Standup in Stilettos, and Nickelodeon’s Mom’s Night Out.
Cooper won an Obie award for writing and performing in the critically-acclaimed Off-Broadway play Ain’t No Mo and starred in the award-winning independent film, Wolf.
