
West Coast rap legends E-40 and Too Short are next to face off in a San Francisco Bay Area match-up for the last Verzuz of 2020.
Co-creators Swizz Beatz and Timbaland revealed the news Sunday on Instagram, a day after Ashantiannounced her battle with Keyshia Cole was postponed until January after she tested positive for COVID-19.
“It’s go time. #Verzuz. The paperwork is in, let the slideshow begin” wrote E-40, sharing the event’s digital flyer. “By popular demand The Battle of the Bay #Verzuz is here. The ambassador of the Bay vs. Short Dog @TooShort.”
E-40 continued, “We gon’ end this year on a good note, loves on. It’s a celebration ya feel me.”
Adding his own post, Too Short said its, “town [business]. Whats my favorite word?…[chick]. Me and @e40 are ready to tell all the youngstas how we put The Bay on the map & influenced the world. See y’all Saturday.”
Both E-40 and Too Short are considered pioneers of West Coast’s rap and hip-hop scene. E-40’s playful and distinctive voice can be heard on some of his biggest hits, such as “Tell Me When to Go,” “Yup,” “U And Dat,” featuring T-Pain and Kandi Buruss. As for Too Short, he’s collaborated with the likes of Snoop Dogg, 50 Cent, Twista, Wiz Khalifa and Lady Gaga, to name a few.
Short’s 2006 single, “Blow the Whistle,” is often sampled, most recently by fellow Bay Area rapper Saweetie on her song, “Tap In.”
