Today show meteorologist and anchor Al Roker has spoken out about the weatherman who was fired for using a racial slur on air.
WHEC-TV meteorologist Jeremy Kappell was fired Monday. Three days earlier, he referred to Martin Luther King Jr. Park in Rochester, New York as Martin Luther Coon Jr. Park.
Roker tweeted, “I think @JeremyKappell made an unfortunate flub and should be given the chance to apologize on @news10nbc. Anyone who has done live tv and screwed up (google any number of ones I’ve done) understands.”
Kappell said the flub was just an accident. In a Facebook Live video, he told viewers, “That is not a word I said, I promise you that. If you did feel that it hurt you in any way, I sincerely apologize.” Kappell thanked Roker for his support and said it meant a lot to his family.
