New rule may require NFL players to stand for national anthem

According to Business Insider, NFL owners may enforce a rule that requires players to stand during the national anthem. This comes after President Trump condemned NFL players for taking a knee to protest against racial injustice. It also follows VP Mike Pence leaving a game on Sunday after players refused to stand. Other leagues, like the NBA, require players to stand during the national anthem. But Business Insider explains some NFL players could argue that it would infringe upon freedom of speech, “even if technically the NFL is a private company.”
